I never liked the Tekken series, always seemed too slow and clunky to me.

slow and clunky?

its only slow if you dont know how to play. there are crouch dash cancels and many character specific movements to speed up gameplay.
i'm not sure what you call a faster game then? since a lot of the game revolves around frame data play also. characters has 8 frame hits which is less than 1/10th of a second. i think there are even 6 frame hits in the game, but i'm not too sure about that. O_O

tekken is actually a decently paced game, especially if you're comparing it to real matches (UFC).

if you're looking for a good masher with dragonball speed, then tekken isnt for you. tekken is more about fighting strategically.

i dont understand the clunky part at all though.
comparing it to any 2d fighter, tekken is hardly clunky at all
