1st step to be vfx artist ??

Postby gerakvisual on Mon Apr 14, 2008 1:38 am

Hello,

I am Gorgy from Jakarta - Indonesia.
I want to ask about vfx.. I am compositor and motion graphic artist in Jakarta, I want to change my route to be vfx artist. What should I do? Should I learn some online program (flint / flame/ inferno / etc)? Should I know about photography? Should I know about camera?
I really really want to learn about vfx.. Do you have some tips and tricks?
I ussualy use After Effects..

Btw, you can check my website www.gerakvisual.com

Thank you.

Depending what you plan on doing for Visual Effects. For instance you can get into compositing, particle effects, lighting and rendering, live plate tracking etc. My old instructor once said it's best to try them all out first then focus on a specific skill. I would start with after effects since you already have some motion graphic experience. Shoot some live shots, and mess around with the shot in after effects. Best thing id say take some classes on it.

Good luck Gorgy,
Tom
